The Rise of Smart Products
You may have heard about the rise of so called ‘smart products’ and it seems that these are going to continue to make headlines in 2019. With voice search also becoming more and more important, this has extended to your favourite appliances. The future of voice search and appliances is very interesting as there could be a whole range of ways that you could control your fridge or freezer using the power of your voice. Want to defrost your freezer? There could be ways in which you could command your fridge freezer to defrost itself. Commanding your fridge to set a specific temperature could also be a possibility so smart appliances definitely have a clear integration method with voice commands.
In the present, we’ve already seen smartphone cross integration with many appliances - allowing to control your appliances at the touch of a button. There are also fridges and fridge freezers that can display screens so you can either project a phone onto the appliance or display a screen for music videos or your favourite television shows. Found a new favourite recipe and have done away with the old fashioned recipe book? Search for recipes online and display them on your fridge or fridge freezer whilst you are cooking for an easy way to read your recipe whilst cooking. Masterchef fanatics may even want to display their favourite chef cooking a meal that they are trying to perfect. The current technology of fridges and fridge freezers has already shown some nifty innovations so the future is looking very exciting in deed.
Environmental Innovations May Change Your Fridge Freezer Forever
Single use plastics, cutting down on meat, swapping car rides for bicycles or walking. There’s always a hot topic in regards to the subject of cutting down on fuel emissions or waste in favour of more environmentally friendly products or lifestyle choices. Could there be a path for zero energy appliances using futuristic technology? Yuriy Dmitriev, a Russian designer has developed what he has coined an ‘Eletctrolux Bio Robot Refrigerator’ which transforms invisible infrared radiation into visible light. This cools the fridge by absorbing heat energy which then radiates it in different wavelengths. This is technology that is used in space shuttles and this space age technology is probably what we will see in the future of appliance development.
Offering a strong surface tension, the gel allows for a seperate pod for each product and odours will not mix. Contamination is not an issue and meat does need to be frozen. The fact that it uses no electricity saves on bills and the fridge can be placed in many different positions whether this is upside down or on the ceiling. Although this seems like an ingenious invention that could completely change the way that we use a fridge, we wouldn’t bet on one being available to purchase anytime soon with the production of this product likely to be extensively carried out around 2050.
Automatic Ordering Systems
We’ve all been there. We get back from the shops after carrying out an extensive shopping trip and have forgotten the one key ingredient that we needed. Although you can write an extensive list and try and remember everything, you may even find that your favourite supermarket has ran out of your favourite foods. Hearing an aggravated meowing from the corner of the room and realise that you’ve forgotten to pick up cat food for your fluffy friend? What if you were able to order food, groceries or pet food from your fridge or fridge freezer? Well there are a range of innovations that already exist which make ordering your shopping that much easier. Samsung have developed the Family Hub Refrigerator which utilises a massive 21.5 inch screen which you can use to order groceries.
If you want to get even more advanced then there are even innovations that have a camera inside your fridge or fridge freezer. This lets you check the contents of your fridge from your phone while you are out and about which lets you know if there’s anything you need to pickup. Microsoft and Liebherr have even teamed up to work on Liebherr’s ‘SmartDeviceBox’ which uses image recognition to learn products and lets you know when you are running low by sending a list to your smartphone. There’s also other technology that has been developed that weighs items which again lets you know when you are running low.
Technology You Didn’t Know Already Existed
We’ve focused on the future of freezers and fridge freezers but what about the technology that exists and is present right now? There are a range of technological feats that have been achieved around fridge freezers that you may not even know about. We’ve listed some of these innovations below:
Water Pitcher That Fills Itself
Arguably one of the more lazy options on our list is GE’s refrigerator that features a water pitcher that can fill itself with cold water. Although this is more practical than having to fill the pitcher yourself, one would probably assume that this is a fancy feature rather than a feature that will completely change the way that you use your fridge freezer.
Is Your Cup Half Empty or Half Full?
Many people enjoy the fact that their fridge freezer or american fridge freezer can dispense water but what about a fridge freezer that can automatically detect and fill your glass? GE and Whirlpool have tried to develop this with GE creating AutoFill and PreciseFill innovations. AutoFill works by detecting the size of a cup or glass and fills it without spilling. PreciseFill is great for cooking and baking as it allows you to programme the exact amount of water you need and then dispenses it. Whirlpool have developed Measured Fill which is exactly the same as PreciseFill.
The Party Continues in Your Fridge
If you love blaring out loud music while cooking or doing the washing up then this feature is great for you. The Whirlpool CoolVox actually contains in-built speakers with Bluetooth connectivity. Listen to your favourite audiobook or play air guitar whilst getting out your favourite ingredients or cooking in your kitchen.
Enjoy Vibrant Colours in Your Kitchen
At Howards Electrical, we offer a range of colourful Smeg fridge freezers so we had to include these on the list. You can enjoy a wide range of vibrant colours with cream and red colouration being highly popular in the 1950s to the 1980s. There’s a wide range available and these can add vibrance and fantastic designs to your kitchen area!
